My Career: Effective migrant work integration

The project aims to improve the capacity of the staff of the partner organisations and other organisations in their network to support the labour market integration of migrants through career guidance.

The concrete objective is to increase staff competences in the use of selected methods & tools of career guidance, which are both effective in supporting migrants’ awareness of their own skills & easy to implement for staff (in terms of time efficiency & professional competences required). This will help to reduce the risk for migrants being unemployed or in jobs that do not reflect their level of qualification, thus enabling them to contribute to the prosperity & cohesion of European societies to the full extent of their potential, while at the same time building a satisfying career for themselves.

The specific objective of the project addresses the Erasmus+ horizontal priority “Inclusion and Diversity” in terms of its contribution to the development of key competences of staff to address the cultural and linguistic barriers to equal access to employment opportunities faced by people with a refugee or migrant background, thus promoting the inclusion of all in employment. In line with the daily practice of the partner organisations, the whole project implementation will respect the criteria of environmental sustainability.

Concrete outcomes

  1. The partners have analysed career guidance methods & practices that are easy to implement in their own context and effective in promoting migrants’ awareness of their own skills. The exchange of experiences enables them to identify a set of practices that (1) are effective in helping migrants to develop an awareness of their own skills, (2) are easy to implement for the staff of the organisations supporting the work integration of migrants in terms of skills and time required.
  2. The staff of the partner organisations & of other organisations in their network have increased their competences in implementing the identified methods and good practices. The production and sharing of “training pills” enables staff to implement some of the best methods and tools identified for the benefit of migrants.
  3. Project results have been disseminated to interested parties on local, national and European level. Dissemination of the results to organisations working in the field of labour integration of migrants will increase their impact & sustainability.

The concrete objective of the project will contribute to the specific priority of the sector: “Improving competences of educators and other adult education staff”, in terms of their ability to respond to the individual needs of migrants (depending on the migrant’s background). It will also increase staff competence in assessing migrants’ prior knowledge & skills in a collaborative way that insists on the development of migrants’ own awareness. It will strengthen the supporting role of staff in motivating, guiding & advising migrants in the job search process.
